Water Voles are an endangered species in Britain, their numbers are dwindling fast due to Mink and depletion of habitat so this was an amazing sight when we went to a Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve in Skegness and saw our first ever Water Vole.

I had always pictured the Water Vole to be small like a common Vole,

but they are quite large about as big as your palm. We got to watch this one for over 10 minutes before it realised we where there and swam away.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get that good a picture, but we got at least something to remind us of our close encounter with a extremely cute Water Vole that not many people ever get to see, or maybe will never have the opportunity to see again :-(
