This is my 1st picture of a goldfinch. I’m hoping to get a better photograph in the future of a goldfinch but I don’t have a garden so it might be a little difficult to capture the image I want, but I’m still going to try .

Hey, Marie . . .
Great first effort, but not a goldfinch.
Has someone else identified it for you?
Am curious myself,
Pavel – a longtime photographer/birder in Wyoming
Hi Pavel thanks for the positive comment,
My husband is good at identifying birds and is certain it’s a goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis). I took a few other photographs of the goldfinch that day and in those you can clearly see the yellow on the wings.
I plan to add those images above as well when I get the time (didn’t add them originally as the quality wasn’t too good).
Could it be you are thinking of the American Goldfinch that’s mostly yellow?
After a little research it looks like the UK/European Goldfinch is called a Goldfinch and the American Goldfinch an American Goldfinch. Would have been less confusing to call ours a European Goldfinch I suppose.
Marie
Ive seen here in america both the AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and the LESSER GOLDFINCH especialy when theres lots of weed seeds for them
